And once again, a few new additions have joined my collection. Of course, they are once again illustrious series, but this time we’re going all the way back to 1993 in terms of production year. Personally, I wouldn’t mind going even further back, but that quickly becomes prohibitively expensive.

Sleepy Hollow

At first, I had no interest in the series Sleepy Hollow, even though I had never seen it. For me, it felt strange to see the universe from the Tim Burton film turned into a series.

However, two years ago, I noticed that the two protagonists from the series made an appearance on Bones. Wait, what? It’s so grounded in reality? I found that pretty wild, so I added the first season to my list, and now it’s here. I’m very curious and am even considering watching it in English because, as hinted at in Bones, there seems to be a lot of emphasis on refined pronunciation, especially with Ichabod Crane.

SeaQuest DSV

With SeaQuest DSV, we’re diving straight into nostalgia. I absolutely loved this series back then for so many reasons. Over the years, there have been countless sci-fi and fantasy series and everything in between. But a series that focused on Earth’s underwater world as its main theme? That was something entirely new. Sure, we got to admire Patrick Duffy in tight swim shorts in Man from Atlantis (1977), but that show leaned more toward sci-fi again.

SeaQuest DSV took a different approach, even though Steven Spielberg made the mistake early on of comparing it too much to Star Trek as the producer. But SeaQuest DSV was wonderfully unique and worked perfectly on its own without those comparisons.

The cast was also exciting to watch, even though it often changed. First Roy Scheider as the captain, then the charismatic tough guy Michael Ironside. But my favorite was always Jonathan Brandis as Lucas Wolenczak, the wunderkind. No, I wasn’t a wunderkind at all, just pretty ordinary, but I looked up to him. Unfortunately, he was one of those tragic Hollywood stories and left us far too soon, like River Phoenix. For some humor, they brought two brothers from the DeLuise family on board. My little nerdy heart (which was already quite pronounced back then) beat especially hard for Kathy Evison as Lonnie Henderson, I had such a crush on her back then, though that’s probably something I shouldn’t admit.

Yes, in case it wasn’t clear already: I’m really looking forward to this series. I’m just annoyed that splitting seasons was already a strange trend back then, and you can only get them in parts. For this reason, I’ll probably wait to start until I have the second part of the first season.

True Detective

Even though my taste is very mixed, my heart sometimes beats a little faster for a good crime series. That’s why friends recommended True Detective to me.

After doing some research, I was surprised by the cast. Just the first season with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey is crazy enough, but now Jodie Foster is also in the current season. That’s quite an assembly of Hollywood elite from both older and newer generations. On top of that are several significant awards that not every series receives.

In my mind, for reasons I can’t quite explain, the show somehow aligns with Mindhunter. I’m not entirely sure if that’s a good or bad thing yet, but I’m trying to keep my expectations neutral.

Once again, there’s a lot of good stuff here, and I don’t think I’ll have any trouble finding a fitting series to watch. Especially since there are several things not listed here but already drafted out elsewhere. But as I’ve said many times before: everything here is meant to be relaxed and without deadlines or pressure because it should continue to be fun!
