These three new series in my collection come from a little after-work trip to my favorite second-hand store here in Frankfurt. As you can easily tell, this store has one big problem, you always find something! About 95% of my vinyl collection also comes from this shop, especially all my jazz records from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s.

That’s how these three series found their way to me, and even though I don’t yet know if I’ll end up getting the entire Suits series, I’m glad I at least picked up the first season.

Enough about my unhealthy shopping habits, let’s talk a little about the series:

Humans

I’m only familiar with Humans from a distance, but I can still clearly remember the premise of the series. However, I have to admit that this purchase was more of an impulsive decision due to the incredible bargain it offered. While I had always intended to watch the series at some point, it had slipped pretty far down my watchlist. Not intentionally, it’s just that there were many other things that interested me more at the time.

I don’t know why, but I just remembered that there was also a Total Recall series once. I definitely need to check if it’s still possible to get a hold of it somehow.

In any case, the Humans DVD box was still sealed, and the price was well under €10. At that point, I don’t spend too much time debating, especially when the box is in such great condition.

Suits

Suits is also one of those series I used to enjoy watching, though “used to” is relative here, as the series isn’t actually that old. However, I was a bit surprised during a quick look at IMDb, as I thought one of the main female roles was played by Sarah Shahi. Of course, IMDb quickly corrected me, and it was actually Meghan Markle, whom I only recognized from countless headline mentions and a small role in Fringe, but not much else on screen.

I always enjoyed watching the series because of its core premise: a guy with great talent but no degree manages to climb relatively high despite the odds. And, of course, there’s always that lingering question in the back of your mind about whether he might get caught, which naturally adds a layer of suspense.

In my youthful naivety, I’d like to claim that Suits won’t be watched anytime soon and is more suited for those longer evenings when the days get shorter. But who knows what my little brain will come up with, maybe I’ll get the urge and start it spontaneously after all.

Billions

I bought the first season of Billions for three reasons: Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis, and Julianna Margulies, even though she only appears in a few episodes in later seasons. These three are a guarantee for excellent acting, something I increasingly miss these days, though there are exceptions, but they often require some searching.

I also find the setting intriguing because I’m always up for a good Wall Street thriller. Films like Margin Call (2011) and The Big Short (2015) have shown me how captivating this genre can be.
